I always knew I wanted to play and write music… From early on I was fascinated by rhythm and melodic phrases, so much so that I would listen to anything and everything… including my parents 30’s, 40’s and 50’s 78 RPM records. I would sit for hours listening to the classic composers from Bach to Rachmaninoff and Count Basie to Nat King Cole. I learned a lot in those formative years listening to all of those great composers and swing artists…and then to the crazy inventive jazz artists that developed that BeBop sound. It was a wonderful education and immersion into what would become a long time passion of mine… music!
I started out on piano at age 7 and took lessons till I was 12… Shortly after that, the Beatles came to America and I switched to playing the guitar. The band scene started early for me and I think I was in bands pretty much though my teens and into my late twenties. I toured a lot and soon found myself turning 30 and married with kids on the way. Needless to say, I had to get a real job to support my young family… but the music never left me and I continue to play and write to this day.
When I turned 59, I decided that I had some regrets about my life and that there were some things that I wanted to do… a bucket list of sorts. First and foremost was to record a compilation of some of the tunes that I had written over the years… not so much for money, though that would be nice, but for legacy reasons. I never got around to recording anything for myself when I was actively touring, even though I played on many other artists projects and… I grew up at a time when some of the greatest music of all time was written. So, I started a music project at Tanglewood Studios, a recording facility owned by an old friend of mine. I hired a producer and we went to work. Little did I realize how much life would slow down the process, but I was bound and determined to get it done… sooner or later! I hope you enjoy the music as it is released and my thoughts from time to time…
